Crossville, Tennessee, can easily lay claim to the title of "the Golf Capital of Tennessee." The area is home to Tennessee's famous vacation and retirement resort, Fairfield Glade, which boasts 90 holes of golf in just their area alone; home to the first site of Jack Nicklaus' Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain State Park; and the location of a total of eleven championship golf courses. In all, there are over 200 holes just waiting to be played atop the Cumberland Plateau.
Many designers have incorporated the rolling hills, mountain streams and natural rock formations into their course layouts. Designers, such as Jack Nicklaus, Ron Garl, Joe Lee, and area favorite, Robert Renaud (designer of the Deer Creek course), have seen the natural terrain and scenic beauty in the Crossville area as an asset of which to take advantage. River Run Golf Course teaching pro Kip Henley III was the winner of the Golf Channel's "Big Break II". That accomplishment in and of itself is truly a testament to the quality of the golf offerings here "on the mountain". The climate atop the Cumberland Plateau provides enjoyable golf year through four seasons. Winter temperatures are in the 40's and 50's, summer highs average in the 80s, and in the fall and spring temperatures are as close to perfect as can be. Crossville is also readily accessible to traveling golfers. It's less than a day's drive from most of the Midwest and the Knoxville airport is only an hour away.
With such great golfing weather, delectable dining choices, world-class theatre, outlet and antique shopping, historic sites and a generous helping of genuine southern hospitality, Crossville is most accurately described as "The Golf Vacation Capital of Tennessee".
